Appreciation of differences and selfishness

Appreciation of differences and selfishness: I'm a fan of YIMBYism but also rent control for certain zones of a city and for certain individuals to different extents, mostly elderly residents. I think there should be more understanding of nuance in issues. I think America is the best definition of tolerance of differences, though I'm worried about the rise of left wing violence as right wing violence has on long-term stayed still.
